Welcome to the Lee Bionanosciences Laboratory at UCD School of Chemistry and Chemical Biology. Our research focuses on elucidating the inter- and intra-molecular forces that give rise to the structure and function of biological macromolecules, with the goal of applying the insight gained to develop new biotechnologies. For example, we developed superparamagnetic microparticles with a high and uniform magnetization capable of increasing the dynamic range of forces that can be studied with magnetic tweezers. On a much larger scale, these particles provide the means for separating specific materials from complex mixtures using magnetophoresis, improving the speed and sensitivity of many techniques and processes. The development of these highly novel microparticles led to the formation of MagSense Life Sciences, Inc. See Technology and Patents for more information on our innovative techniques and real-world applications.
